The visit of Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir, to Sri Lanka, initially scheduled for 9th to 12th December 2024, has been postponed due to unforeseen urgent commitments, according to reliable sources.

General Munir’s visit was intended to mark a significant diplomatic milestone between the two nations and highlight the long-standing ties of friendship and cooperation. It was also planned to coincide with the commemoration of a historic gesture of solidarity by Sri Lanka during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War, when the island nation provided critical support to Pakistan Air Force aircraft.

During the visit, General Munir was expected to engage in discussions with Sri Lankan leaders on deepening military and economic collaboration while reflecting on shared history and exploring avenues for enhanced regional security.

While the delay is regrettable, both sides are reportedly working on rescheduling the visit to a mutually convenient date, ensuring that this important engagement will still take place.

General Munir remains an influential figure in Pakistan’s military and diplomatic spheres, especially following his recent five-year extension as Army Chief. His leadership continues to play a pivotal role in addressing regional security challenges and strengthening Pakistan’s ties with its international partners, including Sri Lanka.

Further updates on the rescheduled visit are expected to follow as discussions progress.
