President Anura Dissanayake Appoints New Cabinet and Allocates Ministries

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has announced the allocation of key ministries in his newly appointed cabinet, marking a significant shift in governance priorities. The president himself will take charge of several crucial portfolios, including the Ministry of Defence, placing national security directly under his leadership. In addition, he will oversee the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development, Policy Making, Planning, and Tourism, reflecting the administration’s focus on economic recovery and strategic growth. He will also lead the Ministry of Energy, with a strong emphasis on sustainable energy solutions, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Lands, Livestock, Irrigation, Fisheries, and Water Resources, a portfolio central to addressing food security and resource management.

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has been entrusted with a wide array of ministries. Her responsibilities include the Ministry of Justice, Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils, Local Government, and Labour, which covers key aspects of governance and labor rights. Additionally, she will oversee the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, underlining the importance of advancing education and innovation. Dr. Amarasuriya will also manage the Ministry of Women, Children, and Youth Affairs and Sports, and the Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Food Security, Cooperative Development, Industry, and Entrepreneurship Development, focusing on social welfare and economic resilience. The Ministry of Health is also under her purview, highlighting the administration’s commitment to public health and wellbeing.

Minister Vijitha Herath has been assigned multiple significant portfolios, including the Ministry of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, National Integration, Social Security, and Mass Media. He will also be responsible for the Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation, along with the Ministry of Public Security, placing key infrastructural and security matters in his domain. Additionally, the Ministry of External Affairs will fall under his leadership, playing a crucial role in shaping the nation’s international relations and diplomatic strategy.
