Former Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa has issued a direct challenge to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, demanding proof of long-standing allegations that the Rajapaksa family stole and hoarded public funds during their time in power.
In a series of videos posted on his official ‘X’ account, Rajapaksa highlighted previous statements made by President Dissanayake accusing the Rajapaksa regime of siphoning billions of dollars in public money and stashing it in foreign accounts, including in countries such as Uganda and Seychelles.
“President @anuradisanayake and his team have been alleging for years that we are in possession of billions of dollars in Uganda and various countries. Now is the time for President AKD to prove his allegations,” Rajapaksa asserted in his post.
The bold challenge comes at a time when the political climate remains tense, with widespread calls for accountability regarding the country’s financial crisis. For years, the Rajapaksa family has been the focus of corruption accusations, which they have consistently denied. Rajapaksa’s public statement signals a growing rift between the two political figures and places pressure on President Dissanayake to substantiate his claims.
