Following a recent threat to Israeli tourists in Sri Lanka, Israeli travellers in Thailand now face increased security concerns, with Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad, issuing a warning on Tuesday regarding a “credible and immediate” threat to Israeli visitors at the upcoming Full Moon party on Ko Pha Ngan, scheduled for Friday. This threat has prompted Thai authorities to ramp up security measures, including setting up roadblocks and intensifying police presence around the island, which attracts tens of thousands of visitors from around the world each month, including large numbers of Israeli tourists.

Reports initially emerged through an internal Thai police briefing, which warned of a plot specifically targeting Israelis on Ko Pha Ngan. The National Security Council (NSC) in Israel has since advised all Israeli nationals to maintain heightened vigilance, urging them to report suspicious activity, avoid displaying Israeli symbols, and keep away from crowded areas. Significantly, the NSC’s warning applies to all of Thailand, not solely the island of Ko Pha Ngan, underscoring the perceived seriousness of the situation.

“From my experience, Israelis can be rattled by such threats,” said Erez Rot, a travel agent based on Ko Samui, another Thai island popular among tourists. “However, this year, especially after recent incidents, Israelis should seriously consider avoiding large gatherings.” Rot noted that the broader impact of the ongoing regional conflicts has already affected tourism in Thailand, with a noticeable decline in Israeli visitors in recent months.

The heightened alert follows a similar advisory issued last month for Israeli tourists in Sri Lanka, where intelligence indicated the presence of a “hit squad” believed to be targeting Israelis in the Arugam Bay area. This led to the arrest of three suspects in Sri Lanka, and subsequent court documents in the United States have alleged that the plot was backed by Iran—a claim Iran strongly denied, dismissing the allegations as a “third-rate comedy.”
