The Sri Lankan police have clarified that there is no evidence to suggest that an Army Intelligence officer was involved in the stabbing of three police officers during a protest in front of the Isurupaya building in Battaramulla. The incident, which occurred on December 2, 2024, during a demonstration by school development officers demanding teacher appointments, left three officers injured by a sharp weapon.
A statement issued by the Police Media Division confirmed that the investigation by Thalangama Police has not provided any information implicating an Army Intelligence officer in the attack. The police also emphasized that no such evidence had been uncovered during their inquiry.
In response to media reports suggesting the involvement of an Army Intelligence officer, the Police Special Investigation Unit (SIU) has launched a separate inquiry. This investigation was initiated by the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) following claims made in court, where the Thalangama Police had allegedly indicated that an Army Intelligence officer was responsible for the injuries sustained by the police officers.
