US President Donald Trump recently claimed to have discussed the ongoing Ukraine conflict with Russian President Vladimir Putin during a phone call, though the Kremlin has yet to comment on the conversation. In an interview with the New York Post aboard Air Force One, Trump emphasized his belief that Putin sought an end to the violence, describing the loss of life as tragic and senseless. Trump, who has consistently promised to end the conflict quickly, also said he would have prevented the war had he been in office in 2022.
Despite the lack of details on the alleged phone call, Trump has expressed his intention to meet with Putin to negotiate a resolution. His proposed peace plan reportedly includes freezing the conflict, establishing a demilitarized zone, and suspending Ukraine’s NATO membership. Meanwhile, Russia insists any settlement must acknowledge the “territorial reality” and include Ukraine’s permanent neutrality.
