A suicide bombing at an Islamic seminary in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province killed prominent cleric Hamid ul Haq and four others during Friday prayers, just a day before Ramadan. Haq, the son of Maulana Samiul Haq—widely known as the “Father of the Taliban”—was believed to be the target of the attack at Jamia Haqqania, a historic institution linked to the Afghan Taliban.
The explosion struck the first row of worshippers, injuring over a dozen people. No group has claimed responsibility, but authorities are investigating possible links to militant factions.
Pakistan continues to battle insurgencies, with a separate roadside bombing in Quetta injuring ten people the same day. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack and called for enhanced security measures as the country enters Ramadan.
