At least six people are feared dead, and nine others are injured after a tourist submarine sank off the coast of Egypt early Thursday morning. The incident occurred near the Egyptian Red Sea city of Hurghada, just close to the harbour, when the Sindbad submarine ran into trouble.
The Sindbad, which was carrying approximately 40 tourists at the time of the accident, sank while operating near the coral reefs in the area. Rescue operations were immediately launched by the authorities, and many of the passengers on board have been successfully rescued.
However, a number of the passengers sustained injuries, with some reported to be in critical condition. The injured have since been transferred to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
As of now, the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCO) has been contacted for further comment. The cause of the incident is yet to be determined, and investigations are ongoing. The local authorities are working to ensure that all passengers are accounted for, with many being assisted in the recovery efforts.
