French President Emmanuel Macron has urged French companies to halt investments in the United States in response to tariffs imposed by the Trump administration. In a statement, Macron emphasized the need for caution, warning that France must protect itself from the economic impact of the trade measures.

“We are not naive, so we are going to protect ourselves,” Macron said, stressing the importance of ensuring that any planned investments in the US be temporarily suspended. “It is important that the investments to come, or announced in recent weeks, are suspended, until we have clarified things with the United States.”

Macron expressed frustration over the ongoing trade tensions, questioning the logic of allowing major European companies to inject billions of euros into the US economy while facing tariffs that are detrimental to French and European industries. “What would be the message of having big European players starting to invest billions of euros in the US economy as they are beating us?” he asked.

The French president’s call reflects growing concerns within Europe about the impact of US trade policies, particularly under the previous administration. The move signals France’s stance on protecting its economic interests and underscores the broader tensions between the US and the European Union over trade practices and tariffs.
