Qatar has committed to purchasing up to 210 aircraft from Boeing in a deal that U.S. President Donald Trump hailed as the largest jet order in the history of the American aerospace giant. The agreement, revealed during Trump’s visit to the Gulf state, is part of a broader package of business deals worth more than $243 billion, according to the White House.
The deal underscores Qatar’s strategic alignment with Trump’s “America first” policy, joining a growing list of oil-rich Gulf nations securing praise from the former president by investing heavily in U.S. companies. As reported by the Financial Times, the centrepiece of the announcement was a $96 billion agreement between Qatar Airways and Boeing for up to 210 wide-body aircraft, including the 787 Dreamliner and the next-generation 777X.
“Congratulations to Boeing. Get those planes out there,” Trump said at a signing ceremony alongside Qatar’s emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani. “I just want to thank you. We’ve been friends for a long time.”
The White House touted the agreement as Boeing’s “largest-ever wide-body order,” a designation that sent Boeing shares up by 2.3% on the day. While aircraft orders typically come at discounted prices, the headline value of the deal adds to Trump’s ongoing narrative of delivering major U.S. business wins abroad.
In addition to the aviation deal, other multibillion-dollar agreements were signed across the defence, energy, and technology sectors, reinforcing Qatar’s role as a key U.S. economic partner in the region. The announcements form part of Trump’s broader Gulf tour, which has been marked by efforts to secure high-profile investments and business deals that showcase U.S. manufacturing and technological prowess.
As the Financial Times noted, these deals also serve to bolster political ties, with Qatar’s investment playing into broader geopolitical dynamics in the Gulf — a region where influence and alliances are often cemented through major economic cooperation.
For Boeing, the Qatar order represents a significant boost amid ongoing global competition and industry recovery efforts. For Qatar, it signals a continued commitment to expanding its aviation footprint while deepening economic ties with Washington.
