According to Mehr News, Trump posted the ceasefire announcement online, claiming that both sides had agreed to halt hostilities:
“It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in-progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED!” Trump stated.
Despite these remarks, Mehr News emphasized that Israeli forces launched a new wave of attacks on several parts of Tehran shortly after the announcement, suggesting either a breakdown in communication or a coordinated move to finish military objectives before any actual ceasefire takes hold.
Trump further elaborated that the ceasefire would be phased, with Iran initiating it first:
“Officially, Iran will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 12th Hour, Israel will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 24th Hour, an Official END TO THE 12 DAY WAR will be saluted by the World. During each CEASEFIRE, the other side will remain PEACEFUL and RESPECTFUL,” he claimed.
Notably, there has been no official response from Iranian authorities, and the Israeli government has also remained silent on the alleged agreement. The Israeli strikes on Tehran following Trump’s announcement are widely seen as a signal of continued aggression and possible support for Trump’s narrative, rather than any concrete diplomatic development.
Mehr News concluded its report by underlining the contradiction between Trump’s statements and the reality on the ground, warning that the so-called ceasefire announcement may be more political theatre than a genuine step toward peace.
