Polish President Karol Nawrocki has come under scrutiny after attending the United Nations’ 80th anniversary ceremony in New York on Monday. Footage from the event appeared to show Nawrocki discreetly taking an item from a box, reigniting debates over his past admitted use of nicotine pouches.
Polish Member of Parliament Roman Giertych publicly questioned the president’s conduct, suggesting potential substance abuse. “Anyone addicted to tobacco can go without it for several hours, but Nawrocki cannot last even an hour without this stimulant, which means he is unfit for public duties,” Giertych said, asserting that the president was neither smoking nor using nicotine products at the time.
This is not the first time Nawrocki’s behavior has raised questions. During a presidential campaign debate on May 23, he was also seen attempting to consume something covertly. However, the president subsequently passed a drug test conducted on May 27.
The controversy adds a new layer of scrutiny to Nawrocki’s presidency, with critics calling for closer attention to his public conduct while supporters urge caution before drawing conclusions from brief video clips.
