The U.S. Department of Justice has formally indicted Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, in the Southern District of New York, Attorney General Pamela Bondi announced on Twitter. Maduro faces multiple serious charges, including narco-terrorism conspiracy, cocaine importation conspiracy, possession of machine guns and destructive devices, and conspiracy to possess such weapons against the United States.

Bondi praised the Trump administration and U.S. military for their roles in addressing what she described as “alleged international narco traffickers.” She stated that Maduro and Flores “will soon face the full wrath of American justice on American soil in American courts,” framing the indictments as a major step toward accountability for the American people.

The announcement comes amid heightened tensions between the U.S. and Venezuela, following recent military operations targeting the Maduro regime. Legal experts note that the indictments, while largely symbolic due to Maduro’s presence in Venezuela, mark a rare escalation of U.S. judicial action against a sitting head of state. The international community is closely watching how these charges might affect U.S.-Venezuelan relations and the broader geopolitical landscape in Latin America.
