Sri Lanka has announced a nationwide increase in fuel prices, with the revision coming into effect from midnight on March 9. The adjustment was confirmed by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (Ceypetco), the state-owned fuel supplier responsible for distributing petroleum products across the country.
According to the new pricing structure, several key fuel categories have seen notable increases. The price of Auto Diesel has been raised by Rs. 22 per litre, bringing the new price to Rs. 303. Super Diesel has increased by Rs. 24 per litre and will now be sold at Rs. 353 per litre.
Petrol prices have also been revised upward. Petrol 92 Octane has been increased by Rs. 24 per litre, setting the new price at Rs. 317. Meanwhile, Petrol 95 Octane has recorded the highest increase among petrol types, rising by Rs. 25 per litre to reach Rs. 365.
Kerosene, widely used by lower-income households and in the fisheries sector, has also been affected by the price revision. Its price has been increased by Rs. 13 per litre, bringing the new retail price to Rs. 195.
The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation stated that the revised fuel prices became effective starting at midnight today. The adjustment reflects ongoing changes in the country’s fuel pricing mechanism, which periodically reviews domestic fuel prices in line with international market trends and operational costs. The increase is expected to have a wider impact on transportation costs and the cost of living across Sri Lanka.
