Alphabet, the technology conglomerate behind Google, announced fourth-quarter revenue of $113.8 billion on Wednesday, an 18 percent increase year-on-year and slightly above Wall Street expectations. Net income rose 30 percent to $34.5 billion, beating forecasts and highlighting the continued strength of Google’s search and advertising businesses. The company also revealed plans to invest between $175 billion and $185 billion in capital expenditures this year, far exceeding analyst predictions, as it aggressively expands its artificial intelligence capabilities and related infrastructure.

Alphabet has emerged as a leader in the AI space, leveraging its proprietary Gemini AI models and custom chips to bolster search, advertising, and cloud offerings. The Gemini AI assistant app reached 650 million monthly users by November, while Google’s AI Overviews feature in search surpassed 2 billion monthly users. Recent partnerships, including an agreement to power Apple’s updated Siri with Gemini models, provide access to over 2.5 billion Apple devices and underline Alphabet’s expanding influence in AI-driven consumer technology. Analysts note that strong performance in YouTube and search advertising has helped sustain revenue momentum despite broader market concerns about AI competition and high tech valuations.

Despite record revenue and ambitious spending, Alphabet’s shares fell 1.4 percent in after-hours trading to $328.88, reflecting investor caution amid a broader sell-off in AI-focused tech stocks. Market observers cite uncertainty over the pace of AI adoption and the unprecedented scale of infrastructure investment as factors fueling volatility. The company’s market capitalization now exceeds $4 trillion, positioning it near Nvidia’s $4.3 trillion valuation and solidifying Alphabet’s status as a dominant force in both AI innovation and digital advertising. CEO Sundar Pichai emphasized the company’s commitment to research and development, particularly in AI tools, search, and cloud technologies, as Alphabet continues to outpace its peers in the US tech sector.
