The Chinese ambassador to Iran, Cong Peiwu, highlighted the promising prospects of cooperation between Iran and China within the BRICS framework, calling for stronger bilateral ties in both economic and multilateral spheres. He emphasized that BRICS offers a favorable platform for enhancing economic collaboration among Global South nations, noting that the group’s activities extend beyond trade exchanges. These include cross-border e-commerce, cooperation in digital economy fields, artificial intelligence, innovation, and technology.
Ambassador Cong also pointed out that BRICS’s constructive interactions among member states foster the expansion of cooperation with other nations. Iran, which officially became a full member of BRICS in January 2024, was invited to join alongside Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia.
Originally comprised of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, BRICS stands as a counterbalance to the G7, representing the world’s largest economies. In his remarks, Ambassador Cong also stressed the importance of supporting the development and growth of an open global economy. He condemned the unilateral actions and economic threats imposed by certain countries on Iran and China, calling them “illogical,” and reiterated the need for all nations to advocate for an open and mutually beneficial global economy.
