Lichtman’s Analysis Favors Harris with Eight of 13 ‘Keys’ to the White House

In a forecast, renowned historian Allan Lichtman has predicted that Kamala Harris will emerge victorious over Donald Trump in the upcoming November election. Lichtman, a history professor at American University, is celebrated for his impressive track record in predicting presidential outcomes, having accurately forecasted all but one U.S. presidential election since 1984.

Lichtman, who is often dubbed the ‘Nostradamus’ of U.S. elections, bases his predictions not on traditional polls but on a unique methodology involving 13 true-or-false questions. These questions, according to Lichtman, hold the “keys” to unlocking the secrets of presidential success. For the 2024 race, Lichtman’s analysis indicates that eight of these keys favor Harris, the Democratic nominee.

The shift in the Democratic nomination came after President Joe Biden’s lackluster performance during a June debate led the party to replace him with Vice President Harris. Lichtman highlights several factors contributing to his prediction: the absence of a strong third-party candidate following Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s withdrawal, favorable economic indicators, legislative successes of the Biden administration, and a lack of significant social unrest or scandal associated with the White House.

Moreover, Lichtman points out that Harris’s unchallenged path to the nomination, with all other Democratic contenders rallying behind her, is an added advantage. Speaking to The New York Times, Lichtman asserted, “Kamala Harris will be the next president of the United States – at least that’s my prediction for the outcome of this race.”

Despite Lichtman’s confident projection, other analysts offer a different perspective. Nate Silver, a prominent election forecaster, suggested that Trump’s chances of defeating Harris are now higher than at any point since Harris entered the race. This contrasts with recent polls that have shown Harris maintaining a slight lead over Trump.

Lichtman’s predictions have largely been accurate over the years, with the notable exception of the 2000 election between George W. Bush and Al Gore, which was ultimately decided by the Supreme Court following a contentious recount process. As the election approaches, Lichtman’s forecast continues to spark debate and interest across the political spectrum.
