DP World has announced a record-breaking performance in 2024, handling an unprecedented 88.3 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) across its global ports and terminals. This marks an 8.3% year-on-year increase, despite macroeconomic uncertainties and the challenges posed by the ongoing Red Sea crisis.
The company’s diversified global portfolio and robust supply chain expertise played a crucial role in sustaining growth amid disruptions in major trade corridors. Growth was witnessed across various regions, including Latin America, Europe, Africa, Australia, and India, with each posting strong increases in volume.
DP World’s logistics network, which now boasts a capacity exceeding 100 million TEUs across operations in 78 countries, benefitted from long-term infrastructure investments and an influx of new services at its terminals.
Navigating Supply Chain Challenges
The Red Sea crisis in 2024 presented significant hurdles to global shipping, leading to delays and rerouting of trade routes. However, DP World’s strategic investments and extensive global reach enabled it to mitigate these disruptions and maintain efficient service delivery for customers worldwide.
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World, attributed this success to the company’s ongoing commitment to infrastructure development. “During the last 10 years, we have invested more than $11 billion in world-class ports and logistics infrastructure to make trade flow. This record performance is further evidence that our long-term investment is providing the right services for our customers in the right places,” he said.
Bin Sulayem also expressed confidence in the long-term prospects of global trade, emphasizing DP World’s ability to adapt to evolving supply chain demands. “As we continue to expand our reach deeper into the global supply chain by enhancing our end-to-end logistics capabilities, we are confident that the container market will continue to grow and that we have the capacity to service it. Whatever the short-term challenges, we remain bullish on the outlook for world trade.”
Regional Growth Highlights
Among DP World’s top-performing terminals, Ecuador’s Posorja terminal led the way with an impressive 87% surge in volume, nearing 1 million TEUs. Several other locations also registered double-digit growth, including San Antonio (Chile), Yarimca (Turkey), Chennai (India), Callao (Peru), Antwerp (Belgium), and London Gateway (UK). Additionally, Jebel Ali Port, DP World’s flagship hub, recorded a 7% increase in volume compared to 2023.
Newly added ports and terminals contributed nearly 1 million TEUs to DP World’s overall volume. Key developments included the DP World-Evyap merger in Turkey, new operations at Dar Es Salaam Port in Tanzania, and the launch of the Belawan New Container Terminal in Indonesia.
