One of Iran’s most senior Islamic scholars, Grand Ayatollah Nooru Hamedani, issued a strongly worded statement this week defending the country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in response to recent remarks by the President of the United States.
In his statement, Grand Ayatollah Hamedani denounced the American president, describing him as having a “black record” filled with “murder, plunder, and assassination” and accused him of supporting the policies of what he called the “brutal Zionist regime.”
The cleric described Ayatollah Khamenei as a “flag-bearer of the dignity of Islam” and a “voice for the oppressed” across the Islamic world, emphasizing that the criticisms aimed at him stem from what he characterized as Western fear of the growing influence of Islamic resistance movements.
“Any attack on the leadership of the Islamic nation will be considered an attack on the very foundation of Islam,” the Ayatollah warned, declaring that such acts would provoke a “harsh and crushing response” from Iran and others sympathetic to its ideological cause.
He further stated that threats and pressure from the United States would only strengthen the resolve of the Iranian people and solidify the unity of the Islamic world, adding, “The promise of God Almighty is unbreakable.”
The remarks come amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States, with rhetoric from both sides intensifying over regional conflicts and strategic influence in the Middle East.
While Iranian officials often condemn U.S. foreign policy, direct public statements of this nature from top-ranking clerics underscore the deep ideological divide between Tehran and Washington, particularly regarding support for Palestinian groups and opposition to Israeli actions.
The U.S. government has not yet responded to Grand Ayatollah Hamedani’s comments.
