Chinese firms have unveiled artificial intelligence-enabled policing technologies capable of analysing suspects’ physical health, mental condition and perceived behavioural risk, according to demonstrations presented at a law enforcement equipment exhibition in Beijing.
The systems were showcased at the International Exhibition and Symposium on Police Equipment and Anti-terrorism Technology and Equipment, where companies promoted biometric surveillance tools designed to reduce manpower requirements and improve policing efficiency amid reported staffing pressures in frontline law enforcement agencies.
Among the technologies displayed was a camera system developed by Tiandy, a video surveillance company based in Tianjin, which is designed to measure vital signs including heart rate, blood pressure, blood oxygen levels and blood flow rate. According to company demonstrations, the system can assess up to six individuals simultaneously within approximately 10 seconds, displaying readings alongside live video feeds and highlighting abnormal indicators.
Tiandy said the system achieved more than 90 per cent accuracy in tests and could be used in controlled environments such as interrogation waiting areas. The company added that multiple cameras could monitor dozens of people at once, enabling continuous tracking of detainees’ locations and alerting authorities to potential medical emergencies. It also claimed the technology could identify procedural irregularities, such as detainees being left unattended or interrogations conducted with insufficient supervision.
The exhibition also featured systems developed by Lianxin Technology, which presented AI-enabled cameras combined with a psychological analysis large language model. The company said its system uses facial analysis to generate personality profiles, emotional stability assessments and behavioural risk indicators after observing a subject for a short period in front of a camera.
According to product materials distributed at the event, the system can evaluate traits including mental stability, core motivations, health vulnerabilities and perceived risk of criminal behaviour, as well as indicators of potential mental health crises. The company said its model was trained on 80 million human samples and had been registered with China’s Cyberspace Administration, the country’s primary cybersecurity regulator.
Lianxin Technology said its products have been deployed in more than 30 police stations across China. The company attributed the development of such systems to staffing shortages in frontline policing, stating that officers are under significant physical and mental strain due to increasing workloads. It also said that traditional investigative capabilities were becoming less effective, without providing further explanation, and that AI-assisted analysis could support detention decisions based on risk classification.
Another company based in Hefei presented a system that combines video and audio analysis to assess psychological and emotional states. The firm said its technology marks a shift from human oversight toward automated monitoring using artificial intelligence, claiming it can detect indicators of mental health, personality traits and behavioural integrity.
The company, Anhui Wuyu Security Technology, said its systems are already in use across state security agencies, border inspection stations and disciplinary authorities in more than 20 provinces and cities. It also stated that similar technologies have been deployed in a range of government-linked institutions, including military-related bodies and other administrative facilities.
In demonstrations described at the expo, some systems use spectral imaging techniques to capture facial reflections beyond visible light, with algorithms designed to detect physiological changes that are not visible to the human eye. Developers said these inputs are processed to infer both physical and psychological conditions.
The exhibition also drew international attention, with Indonesian representatives reportedly expressing interest in Chinese counterterrorism equipment during the event. The three-day expo in Beijing served as a platform for domestic firms to present emerging AI-driven surveillance tools aimed at expanding the technological capabilities of law enforcement agencies.
The technologies presented reflect a broader trend in which companies are integrating biometric data, machine learning models and real-time imaging systems into policing applications, positioning AI as a tool for both operational efficiency and behavioural assessment within security environments.
