IndiGo has canceled all domestic flights departing from New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport until midnight Friday, intensifying a wave of travel disruption that has stretched through the week. The airport operator announced the suspension in a post on X, noting that operations for all other airlines remain unaffected.
The move comes as IndiGo, which controls nearly 66% of India’s domestic aviation market, struggles to stabilize its network following a combination of new pilot rest regulations and recent technology outages. The prolonged disruption has had financial repercussions as well. Shares of InterGlobe Aviation Ltd., IndiGo’s parent company, fell as much as 3.1% in Mumbai trading on Friday, marking the fourth straight day of operational chaos.
According to India’s aviation regulator, IndiGo will scale back its overall flight schedule beginning Monday in an attempt to restore stability. The reduction is intended to ease pressure created by newly implemented rules limiting pilot duty hours, which have forced the cancellation of more than 300 departures on Thursday alone.
The regulator also noted that cabin crew shortages, compounded by seasonal winter constraints at northern airports, contributed to the surge in cancellations. With travelers facing repeated disruptions and long delays, authorities and the airline are under increasing pressure to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.
