Karachi, Pakistan — The Chinese embassy in Pakistan has issued a strong condemnation of a deadly explosion that occurred near Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport, describing the incident as a “terrorist attack” that tragically claimed the lives of two Chinese nationals.

In an official statement, the embassy confirmed that the blast targeted a convoy associated with the Port Qasim Electric Power Company. The embassy extended its heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families from both China and Pakistan, expressing sorrow over the loss of innocent lives.

The attack has been attributed to the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a separatist militant group that has previously targeted Chinese interests in the region. The BLA claimed responsibility for the assault, stating it was carried out using a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) aimed specifically at Chinese engineers.

Historically, the BLA has accused China of exploiting the resources of Balochistan and has executed several attacks on Chinese nationals and facilities, including a previous assault on the Chinese consulate in Karachi.

In the wake of the explosion, the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the “heinous terrorist attack,” which resulted in the deaths of two Chinese engineers and injuries to another. The ministry conveyed its deepest condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims and expressed prayers for the recovery of the injured.

The attack took place at approximately 11 PM on October 6th, as the convoy transporting Chinese staff from the Port Qasim Electric Power Company was targeted, leading to the fatalities and injuries among local residents.

In response to the attack, the Chinese embassy and consulates in Pakistan have activated an emergency plan, urging Pakistani authorities to conduct a thorough investigation, ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable, and take necessary measures to safeguard Chinese citizens and projects within the country.

Furthermore, the embassy advised Chinese citizens and enterprises operating in Pakistan to remain vigilant, monitor the security situation closely, and implement enhanced security measures to protect against potential threats.
