The government of Sri Lanka has approved the nominations of four new Heads of Mission, signaling a renewed push to reinforce its diplomatic presence abroad. The endorsements were granted by the Committee on High Officials of Parliament during a meeting held in Parliament on February 6.
The session took place under the patronage of Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, highlighting the administration’s direct role in shaping the country’s foreign relations. The committee reviewed and cleared several ambassadorial and high commissioner nominations as part of routine parliamentary oversight required before envoys assume duties overseas.
Among those approved was Saman Kumara Chandrasiri, nominated as Ambassador to Israel. Mohamed Farooq Mohamed Fauser was endorsed as Sri Lanka’s Representative to Palestine. The committee also approved Warna Kulasuriya Peter Rohan Dhammika Fernando as High Commissioner to Kenya and Anura Withanage as Ambassador to Lebanon.
The approvals mark the final procedural step before the diplomats formally take up their assignments, ensuring continuity in Sri Lanka’s representation in strategically important regions. Officials say the appointments are expected to enhance bilateral cooperation, promote trade and investment opportunities, and sustain long-standing political and cultural engagement with partner nations.
