India’s largest airline, IndiGo, has faced significant criticism after being ranked 103rd out of 109 airlines in AirHelp’s annual global rankings of airlines and airports. The low ranking reflects underwhelming customer satisfaction, poor handling of flight disruption claims, and average on-time performance, according to passenger feedback. IndiGo’s overall score of 4.80/10 makes it one of the worst performers globally.

The release of the rankings sparked a social media backlash, with passengers sharing negative experiences about crew behavior, ground staff, and the quality of in-flight meals. IndiGo, however, defended its performance, criticizing the survey’s methodology and sample transparency, while emphasizing its strong punctuality record and low customer complaint ratio.

Meanwhile, Tata-owned Air India ranked slightly better at 61st, earning a 4.1/10 score, particularly for claim handling.

At the top of the rankings, Brussels Airlines was crowned the world’s best airline for 2024, with a score of 8.12, followed by Qatar Airways at 8.11. United Airlines and American Airlines also secured top spots, while Iceland’s Play Airlines emerged as a notable newcomer, ranking fifth.

The rankings, based on data from January to October, evaluate airlines on punctuality, customer satisfaction, and claim resolution efficiency, offering a holistic view of passenger experiences across 54 countries.
