Sri Lanka’s Divisional Secretaries and Assistant Divisional Secretaries Association, along with the Government Accounts Service Association, have formally appealed to the Secretary of Defense for urgent action to address housing reconstruction and allowance payments for residents affected by recent natural disasters. The appeal also highlights the pressing issue of homes located in high-risk landslide zones.
According to letters sent by the associations, copies of the correspondence have been forwarded to the Secretary to the President, the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, the Auditor General, and all District Secretaries. The associations stressed the scale of the disaster, noting that many citizens lost both their lives and the properties they had built over a lifetime.
The associations emphasized the responsibility of government officials to ensure that aid reaches those most in need and that compensation funds are distributed efficiently and transparently, preventing misuse of public resources. The appeal underscores the ongoing challenges Sri Lanka faces in post-cyclone recovery and the importance of coordinated action to rebuild homes and safeguard communities in landslide-prone areas.
