Amini, a sovereign AI infrastructure company, has announced a major strategic partnership with Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn), the world’s largest electronics manufacturer, and Bull, a global leader in high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, and quantum computing, in a move that could reshape the future of AI infrastructure across Africa and the Global South. The partnership is designed to close the widening sovereign compute gap by enabling governments, telecom operators, banks, and energy companies to acquire, install, and operate industrial-scale AI data centre infrastructure locally.
The agreement marks Foxconn’s first dedicated infrastructure initiative focused specifically on African markets and positions Amini as its strategic partner across Africa and emerging economies. The collaboration was unveiled during the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi on 11–12 May 2026, where political leaders, global institutions, and major corporations gathered to discuss Africa’s role in the future digital economy.
Amini already operates one of Africa’s leading platforms for locally anchored compute and data capacity, working with governments and enterprises across multiple markets to strengthen domestic AI infrastructure. Through the new partnership, Foxconn’s advanced AI server systems, modular data centre technologies, and computing architectures — widely used by some of the world’s largest technology firms — will now become accessible to African and Global South institutions in configurations tailored to local operating environments and regulatory frameworks.
French-government owned Bull is supporting the initiative by expanding its existing collaboration with Amini. The company will provide systems integration expertise and decades of experience in high-performance computing and AI systems, covering infrastructure, platforms, and industrial use cases. Bull’s involvement also signals growing European support for sovereign digital infrastructure models in emerging markets.
Speaking at the opening of the Africa Forward Summit, French President Emmanuel Macron described the partnership as a model for international cooperation around digital sovereignty. He said the alliance between African, European, and Taiwanese companies represented a shared effort to reduce strategic dependencies and build technological independence in an increasingly AI-driven global economy.
The partnership arrives as Africa’s digital economy accelerates rapidly. Industry forecasts project the continent’s digital economy to reach USD 1.5 trillion by 2030, while demand for AI-enabled services across finance, telecommunications, energy, and public administration continues to expand. Analysts warn that without locally controlled compute infrastructure, much of the economic value generated by AI adoption in these sectors could flow to foreign providers instead of remaining within domestic economies.
Africa’s data centre market is also entering a period of rapid expansion. Market projections estimate growth from USD 3.49 billion in 2024 to USD 6.81 billion by 2030, with installed capacity expected to more than triple during that period. The Amini-Foxconn-Bull alliance is being positioned as a strategic alternative to the current concentration of cloud and AI infrastructure in the hands of a small number of global operators.
Unlike conventional hyperscale data centres that require stable national grids, multi-year construction timelines, and massive capital investments, the partnership’s modular AI infrastructure is designed specifically for the realities of African and Global South markets. The systems can operate in variable power conditions, be deployed in under a year, and expand incrementally as demand grows. Crucially, the model allows institutions to maintain full data sovereignty, with information remaining under domestic regulation and within national borders.
The implications extend across critical sectors of African economies. Energy providers could use AI for predictive maintenance and grid optimisation, while financial institutions may develop independent credit, risk, and financial inclusion systems without relying on external technology platforms. Telecom operators would also gain the ability to deploy edge AI and network intelligence infrastructure at scale while maintaining local control over compute and governance.
Kate Kallot, Founder and CEO of Amini, said AI is becoming foundational infrastructure for national economies but warned that much of the world still lacks the compute capacity needed to participate independently. She said the partnership would allow African and Global South markets to acquire, own, and operate AI infrastructure locally while ensuring long-term economic value remains within those economies.
Foxconn executives framed the move as a deliberate expansion into underserved regions where industrial-scale AI infrastructure has historically been limited. Jesse Chao, Head of AI and Quantum at Foxconn, said Africa’s participation in the global AI economy depended on infrastructure designed specifically for local conditions rather than imported models developed elsewhere.
Bull also described the collaboration as part of a broader effort to build sovereign digital capacity in emerging economies. Alexandre Jouys, the company’s Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Southern Europe, Middle East and Africa, said Africa and the Global South have the potential to emerge as major global AI hubs if regional computing capacity and supply chain independence continue to expand.
The partnership is increasingly being viewed as part of a wider geopolitical shift in the AI economy, where nations and regions are racing not only to adopt artificial intelligence but also to secure ownership of the infrastructure powering it. For Africa and the Global South, the alliance signals an attempt to move from being consumers of external AI systems to becoming owners of the compute infrastructure underpinning the next era of global economic growth.
