Gampaha District MP Ashoka Ranwala, representing the JVP/NPP, has announced his decision to resign from his position as Speaker. In a statement released today, Mr Ranwala cited difficulties in providing the necessary documentation regarding his educational qualifications as the reason for his resignation.
This marks the first instance of a Speaker of Parliament in Sri Lanka stepping down due to a dispute over educational qualifications.

“At this juncture, it has become increasingly challenging for me to provide the required documents pertaining to my educational qualifications. In light of this, and in the interest of maintaining transparency and the integrity of this office, I have decided to tender my resignation as Speaker. I remain committed to serving the people and addressing their concerns in other capacities,” Mr Ranwala stated in his resignation letter.

Even while resigning, he is still lying about his mythical PhD and alleged documents from a supposed Waseda affiliated research institute from which he claims he got his PhD. I wonder what happened to his PhD thesis – surely he must have a copy of that? Has he mislaid that as well?
It is probably very likely that not only the PhD but this unnamed affliated research institute does not exist. Deliciously ironically, this explanation allows him to still call himself “Doctor”. Aftr all he still insists that he has a PhD.
Maybe he needs psychological help.
