Chinese Premier Li Qiang will lead a party and government delegation to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) from October 9 to 11 to attend the 80th anniversary celebrations of the Workers’ Party of Korea and make an official goodwill visit, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday.
According to the ministry, the visit underscores the longstanding friendship and strategic partnership between China and the DPRK. A spokesperson emphasized that maintaining, consolidating, and developing China-DPRK relations remains an “unswerving strategic policy” of the Chinese government.
The visit comes on the milestone anniversary of the founding of the Workers’ Party of Korea, one of North Korea’s most significant political events. China expressed its intention to use the visit to strengthen strategic communication, enhance exchanges and cooperation, and advance traditional friendship and cooperative ties between the two countries.
Officials noted that Premier Li’s trip will follow the guidance of prior high-level understandings between the top leaders of both parties and states, reflecting China’s ongoing effort to reinforce its influence and partnership on the Korean Peninsula.
The visit is expected to include formal meetings with North Korean leaders and participation in celebratory events, signaling Beijing’s commitment to maintaining stability and strategic alignment with Pyongyang amid a complex regional security environment.
