Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a conference call on Sunday with Elon Musk, who agreed to participate in Israel’s Smart Transportation Conference scheduled for March. The call took place while Netanyahu was in Florida and included Transportation Minister Miri Regev and Erez Eskel, head of the National AI Directorate.
During the discussion, Musk accepted an invitation from Netanyahu and Regev to take part in the conference, which is expected to focus on future mobility technologies. The participants also addressed ongoing cooperation with Tesla and the advancement of Israeli legislation related to autonomous vehicles, an area Israel is seeking to expand as part of its high-tech strategy.
The conversation extended to the broader development of artificial intelligence in Israel. Netanyahu emphasized the government’s ambition to accelerate AI innovation, saying Israel intends to position itself as a global leader in the field, similar to its earlier rise in cybersecurity and other advanced technologies.
Netanyahu is currently in Florida ahead of meetings with US President Donald Trump. Upon arriving in the United States on Monday, the prime minister and his wife, Sara Netanyahu, met with the parents of Master Sgt. Ran Gvili, a fallen hostage. During the meeting, Netanyahu expressed solidarity with the family and said efforts were continuing to return their son for a Jewish burial.
