Julie J. Chung, the American Ambassador to Sri Lanka, held a meeting with R. M. A. L. Rathnayake, the Chairman of the Election Commission, to discuss the forthcoming elections in the country. The discussion focused on the preparations for the elections and the challenges faced during previous election cycles.
Ambassador Chung expressed her interest in understanding the current state of the election process and the measures being taken to ensure a fair and transparent election. Mr. Rathnayake assured the Ambassador that the Election Commission is committed to conducting the elections in accordance with the constitutional powers vested in the body.
In recent days, the Election Commission has been a hub of diplomatic activity. Representatives from the European Commission, the United Kingdom’s High Commissioner, and various other diplomatic groups have also met with the members of the Election Commission. These discussions similarly centered on addressing concerns and ensuring the integrity of the upcoming election process.
