Chinese military researchers have unveiled a game-changing advancement in electromagnetic weaponry: the world’s fastest coilgun, capable of firing an astonishing 3,000 rounds per minute. While the video caught global attention, it was a newly published peer-reviewed paper by a team of PLA scientists that revealed the underlying breakthrough: a capacitor-free electromagnetic system powered directly by lithium batteries.
Breaking the Coilgun Barrier
Until now, electromagnetic coilguns have been hampered by the need for capacitors — energy storage units that introduce a lag between shots due to recharging cycles.
