A senior official from the U.S. State Department has revealed that Israel has not provided assurances to the Biden administration that it would avoid military action against Iran’s nuclear facilities. This statement, reported by CNN, raises concerns over escalating tensions in the region as the one-year anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel approaches.

The unnamed official emphasized the uncertainty surrounding Israel’s potential military responses, stating, “It is really hard to tell” whether Tel Aviv would retaliate on October 7, the anniversary of last year’s assault by the Palestinian resistance group. The official expressed hope for “wisdom as well as strength” in Israel’s decision-making but acknowledged that there are “no guarantees.”

The situation has been further complicated by Iran’s recent missile strikes against Israel, which were framed as retaliation for the targeted killings of key Hamas and Hezbollah leaders, including Ismail Haniyeh and Hassan Nasrallah. Meanwhile, Israel has continued its military operations, conducting air and ground attacks in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.

In response to the escalating tensions, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed that Iran will “pay” for its actions, signaling a potential increase in military confrontations in the region.
