Nvidia Corp. has unveiled a new system designed to connect quantum computers with its artificial intelligence chips, aiming to accelerate advances in medicine, materials science, and supercomputing, Bloomberg reports.
The new platform, called NVQLink, combines hardware and software to integrate future quantum computing techniques with Nvidia’s AI technology, reducing errors in the quantum units known as qubits. The system is intended to scale quantum machines from hundreds of qubits today to tens or even hundreds of thousands in the future, Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang said during his keynote at Nvidia’s GTC event in Washington.
“It doesn’t just do error correction for today’s number of qubits, it does error correction for tomorrow,” Huang said. “We’re going to essentially scale up these quantum computers for the next generation.”
Nvidia has partnered with 17 quantum computing companies capable of supporting NVQLink, though Huang did not disclose their names. The move signals Nvidia’s renewed commitment to the emerging quantum computing sector, following earlier skepticism about the technology’s practical potential.
Huang also announced that Nvidia will collaborate with the U.S. Department of Energy to develop seven new supercomputers incorporating its AI chips at federally run research facilities. He praised Energy Secretary Chris Wright for supporting the initiative, saying it will help ensure the United States maintains a leading position in scientific innovation.
The announcement comes shortly after Alphabet Inc.’s Google unveiled its “Willow” quantum-computing chip, which ran a repeatable algorithm outperforming classical supercomputers, highlighting the intensifying global race to commercialize quantum technologies. Early-stage discussions between the Trump administration and quantum computing companies have also explored potential financial support for the industry, reflecting broader competition with China in next-generation technologies.
