He has researched militant Islamist extremist groups for over 35 years, most notably Hezbollah and Hamas, whose leadership he has interviewed over the years. He was involved in the EU Radicalisation Awareness Network since its inception in 2011 and is now on the EU Knowledge Hub on the Prevention of Radicalisation Research Committee. He is an elected member of the Royal Swedish Academy of War Sciences.
